We fall in love several times, but we only love once. In my case Chiaretta was and has been my love.

ENCAUSTIC PAINTING

Encaustic is a pictorial technique in which a molten mixture of wax and resin is applied on a rigid frame. It does not smell, it takes a few minutes to dry and hardens completely within 3 or 4 months. This mixture of encaustic materials, called encaustic medium, has optical and chemical properties similar to those of the glazes, giving an exceptional brightness and color saturation. The finish is warm and glossy, similar to human skin and does not need glass protection for its exhibition. This encaustic technique was first used by the Roman- Egyptians of the 1st Century for painting their mummy portraits, they used it in Pompeii for their wall paintings too, but it was not till Jasper Johns used wax for his famous flags in the 50’s that wax entered definitively the museums. Pigmented beeswax has become since 2005 one of the painting techniques with more potential, given its extraordinary optic properties.
